Kenny Benkowski, better known as Kenny “Sodbuster” Jay in the ring, was an American professional wrestler best known for his appearances with the American Wrestling Association.
Benkowski’s first match was for John Hinds at the Southside Armory. Benkowski was soon working larger venues like Chicago’s Marigold Arena. Benkowski’s wrestling career was put on hold when he joined the United States Army for a two-year stint.
Following his military service, Benkowski found work with the American Wrestling Association (AWA), wrestling every Saturday’s television taping and then house shows for promoter Wally Karbo during the week. When a new name came in, they would give it to Jay to make it look good.
Benkowski wrestled with Mad Dog Vachon, The Crusher, Verne Gagne, Jesse The Body Ventura, Jerry Blackwell, Bobby Heenan, Mr. Saito, and Bruiser Brody using his mat-based scientific wrestling style.
