Vladimir Horowitz was a Russian-born American pianist of the Romantic school who was born in Berdichev, Russia (now in Ukraine), on October 1, 1903, and died in New York, on November 5, 1989.
He was praised for his impeccable skill and a tone that was nearly symphonic.
The technical accuracy and dynamic range of Horowitz’s interpretations of pieces by Franz Liszt, Sergey Rachmaninoff, Frédéric Chopin, Aleksandr Scriabin, Domenico Scarlatti, and Sergey Prokofiev won praise.
His delicate keyboard interpretations of pieces like Robert Schumann’s Kinderszenen (Scenes of Childhood) were well-known.
At the age of 12, Horowitz enrolled in the Kiev Conservatory. When he was a student, he preferred to compose rather than perform.
Why is Horowitz so great? Is Horowitz the best pianist?
He was able to play with a wide volume range without sounding like he was banging. He was able to play a single melody, say in Mozart, quite beautifully. This made him the best pianist of all time.
