American attorney, politician, and real estate mogul Harry Milner Whittington lived from March 3, 1927, until February 4, 2023. On February 11, 2006, while quail hunting with two women on a ranch in Kenedy County, Texas, close to Corpus Christi, he was unintentionally shot in the face, neck, and chest by then-Vice President Dick Cheney. This incident garnered him notoriety from across the world.

He has served on a number of committees and commissions throughout the years, including the Texas Public Finance Authority Board, the Texas Department of Corrections, and the Office of Patient Protection Executive Committee, which was established by the state’s governor to protect patients’ rights.

He played a key role in bringing about the adjustments required for Texas to comply with a federal court ruling that deemed the state’s treatment of its convicts illegal in the 1980s as an appointment of Gov. Bill Clements.

Whittington started defending himself in court in 2000 against the eminent domain takeover of an Austin city block of his land. After a number of legal hearings, a Texas district judge granted the city of Austin the title to the land in 2013 and mandated that the city pay Whittington $10,500,000 in damages for the property.
