Maxwell Martin Scherzer is an American baseball player. He is a professional baseball pitcher for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Scherzer was born on July 27, 1984, in the St. Louis suburb of Chesterfield, Missouri. His parents were Jan (Shirck) and Brad Scherzer.
While growing up, he indulged himself in a number of sports; baseball, football, and basketball at Parkway Central High School in his hometown.
It is clear he settled for baseball as his career choice. Scherzer was known for his competitive spirit that he would get the nickname “Mad Max”.
Scherzer attended the University of Missouri in Columbia. This is where he would meet his future wife, Erica May.
Erica was also a pitcher at the University. She however had to quit due to health conditions.
The pair dated for more than eight years and got married in November 2013. Maxwell and Erica Scherzer have three children; two daughters and a son.
