Republican representative Glenn Thompson attended his gay son’s wedding last Friday after he had just voted against the legislation to protect same-sex marriage. Glenn also known as GT, represents Pennsylvania’s 15th district in the US House of Representatives.
Though Gawker was the first to report about Kale Thompson’s same-sex wedding, there were doubts whether his father who recently voted against the bill will actually attend.
However, it was later confirmed, Pennsylvania Representative and his wife were happy to attend and celebrate the gay wedding. The parents are thrilled to add a new member to their family, although Kale Thompson hasn’t revealed his partner’s name to the media.
Glenn Thompson Attends His Son’s Same-Sex Marriage
On Monday, Thompson’s son, told NBC News that he’s happily married and all his family attended his wedding including his father. Maddison Stone, Thompson’s secretary also confirmed he was at the wedding and both parents were happy for their son.
One of the lawmaker’s three children, Kale is openly gay and he decided to marry his long-term partner whose identity he hasn’t disclosed as he is not a public figure.
The lawmaker was there to support his son’s same-sex wedding but not when he had the chance to vote for the legislation to protect same-sex marriages on July 19.
The House of Representatives passed the Respect of Marriage Act, which would enshrine federal protections for same-sex couples. The bill remains legal and headed to the Senate with a 267-157 vote. GT was one of 157 House Republicans to oppose The Respect for Marriage Act, however, 47 of them voted in favor of the bill.
Meanwhile, the Senate considers The Respect for Marriage Act, where 50 democrats will join 10 GOP lawmakers to send the legislation to President Joe Biden. Should it be signed, would ensure the recognition of same-sex marriage across the country.
Republican and his wife, Penny Ammerman Thompson have three adult sons, Kale, Logan, and Parker Thompson. Glenn completed his graduation from Penn State and Temple Universities with a Master Of Education degree.
