Who is Ashley Purdy? Bio of the famous bassist
Ashley Purdy is from Missouri, born on January 28, 1984. Purdy’s life took a rough turn early on as both of his parents died when he was still young. He was raised in a town in Missouri by his grandparents. While in high school, Purdy began to show more than a passing interest in music. He was plugged into fashion, the arts and music. By the time Ashley turned 18, he left the comfort of his grandparents’ home and headed to Los Angeles with an early dream of pursuing a career in graphic design.
Upon arriving in the City of Angels, Purdy was actually accepted into the Academy of Art in San Francisco, but after some time transferred to the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. Purdy graduated with a BFA in Communication Design with a focus on marketing and advertising. Her college work included projects focused on advertising as well as fashion.
With an initial desire to be a graphic designer upon arriving in Los Angeles, Purdy found his love of music rekindled by “revenge”. Purdy’s most successful band was part of Black Veil Brides but before the advent of BVB for Purdy there were a few other bands he was part of before he struck gold. These other groups included ‘Orgasm’, ‘Stolen’, ‘Hearts’ and ‘Children of the Beast’. With all these different bands, Purdy found similar minds but likely lacked the musical talent or fashion sense that the rock scene needed in Purdy’s eyes. In his words, he constantly struggled with the “hodgepodge tapes”.
Then in 2009, an ad on Craigslist brought his attention to Andy Biersack and the Black Veil Brides, they needed a bassist. With an initial plan to join and poach the band members to form his own band, Purdy quickly found himself comfortable with the group and settled down. He found that both (the band and himself) had similar interests and influences, so why not.
Shortly after Purdy’s arrival at BVB, the band released their debut album titled We’re Suturing These Wounds in July 2010. This debut album sold over 10,000 copies in its first week. It ranked No. 36 on the Billboard Top 200 chart as well as No. 1 on the Billboard Independent chart.
They released a second album Set The World On Fire in 2011 and the same year they were recognized as MTV’s favorite breakthrough band that year. The albums Miserable and Divine and Black Veil Brides were released in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Purdy serves as the band’s bassist but also serves as vocalist.
In early 2013, Purdy found another avenue to release more of her creative energy. He launched his own clothing line, Ashley Purdy Fashion Inc., and he once said in an interview that every item the brand put up for sale was both designed and handcrafted by him. Purdy is also said to be the mastermind behind the appearance of the Black Veil Brides members.

It would be fair to say that much of Purdy’s time is spent pursuing his goals and achieving them as well. But the famous bassist also tried to make room for love in his life; at least for a while. He was in a relationship with model, Kina Tavarozi early in his career, but the couple broke up but remain friends. Rumors then swirled that he was involved with adult star, Nikki Benz in 2015. Purdy, however, cleared things up by stating that they were just friends.
