Where Is Lynn Barton Now? First Female UK Pilot On British Airways

Lynn Barton now lives with her husband in Hampshire in South East England. She is ever known as the first female pilot employed by British Airways in 1987.

Lynn Barton loved the aircraft flight in her childhood and fell in love with it. She had no expectations of being able to do this as a career because it was the 1960s.

When she initially applied to the British Airways training program in 1973, she learned to fly while studying for her A-levels.

British Airways didn’t accept female applications at the time, before equal employment legislation.

She began flying the Boeing 747 for British Airways at the age of 30 and became the airline’s first female pilot on October 31, 1987.

Meanwhile, remembering her first flight experience, she told in an interview published in 2020 that she realized she could become a flying instructor while working at a flying school.

When BA began recruiting for their training program, Lynn was accepted for sponsored training.

Barton was the only girl when she passed through in 1979. There was only one other flying teacher among the 150 recruits at the time.

Lynn believes she was chosen because the airline didn’t want to take a chance on someone who had never flown before.

After that, she went back to instructing because BA had no employment and worked for Air UK before flying with Dan-Air for the first time.
