Clay Shrout is incarcerated at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville, Kentucky. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995 for killing his parents, Walter and Becky Shrout, and his two sisters, Kristen and Lauren.

Shrout applied for parole in March 2019, expressing remorse for his actions. He claimed that was struggling with mental health issues since his early childhood.

Moreover, during the parole hearing, Clay claimed that his mother had sexually abused him as a child, and his father allegedly knew of it. He was angry about how they treated him, and in a culminating rage, he decided to perform parricide.

Due to the seriousness of the crime, the board denied parole to Clay. They cited the crime, weapon, drug, and alcohol abuse as the reason for the denial. The board ordered him to seek anger management and mental health counseling before his next parole hearing in May 2029.

Murders Of Walter And Becky Shrout

On May 25, 1994, Clay Shrout killed his parents Walter and Becky Shrout, with a .380 caliber pistol. He also killed his sisters Kristen and Lauren because they feared they would call the police.

A week before the murder, Clay had brought a stun gun to school which got confiscated by the teachers. His parents berated him for that, assigned him 50 hours of community service, and forbade him from driving his pickup truck to school.

Moreover, Clay was upset that his girlfriend had rejected him and had started using drugs a year ago. His parents were very criticizing of him and his moves.

On May 24, 1994, after a heavy argument with his father, Caly was furious. Two days later, on May 26, he took his father’s gun from his car and shot his parents in their bedroom the next morning. As the noise woke up the two sisters, he killed them both in fear of the police being called by them.

Clay called his friend Richard Brown first after the homicide. Then he left for school in his parent’s car with the gun in his possession. He then kidnapped a girl, Danielle Butsch, and held his class hostage. After the police arrived at the school, he surrendered. They found a stud gun, knives, a sword, nunchucks, and a BB gun in his possession.

Clay Shrout Jail Sentence And Mugshot

After the police arrested him, a court sentence was carried out against him. He was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and pleaded guilty because of insanity.

As a result, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for 25 years on October 14, 1994. He applied for parole in March 2019 but was rejected and eligible for the next one in 2029.
