He had planned to attend Linfield College to play basketball and baseball. Still, he was bothered by the aftereffects of a dislocated shoulder he had received as a senior at Creswell.
He subsequently went to the University of Oregon, wanting to play baseball there, but the Ducks had abandoned their varsity baseball program by the time he arrived. In 1987, he earned a BS in physical education from the University of Oregon.

Few coached Gonzaga to WCC Tournament victories from 2000 to 2002, 2004 to 2007, 2009 and 2011, and 2013 to 2018. In 2017, he guided the club to the NCAA Division I Regional at the Final Four.
In 2017, Mark Few received the AP Coach of the Year, the Henry Iba Award, the NABC Coach of the Year, and the Naismith Coach.
