What has happened to Ross Edgley?

Ross Edgley revealed he was diagnosed with cellulitis after completing 52 hours and 39 minutes covering approximately 79km in the world-famous stretch of water on September 28, 2022.

He ended the challenge at Fort Augustus, short of his original aim of swimming 100 miles (160km).

In an Instagram post, Edgley wrote: “Doctors diagnosis was cellulitis (an infection of the skin) which, if untreated, can spread into the lymph nodes and circulatory system which is where it can become a lot more serious”.

“This is why I wanted to say a HUGE thank you to my support team and an equally GIANT post of appreciation to all the staff at Inverness hospital. Since it was a hard decision to stop the swim when we did, but with retrospect it was 100% the right one.”

Despite things not going exactly to plan he added that the swim had been an “EPIC way to spend 50+ hours in Loch Ness”, undertaken to “raise awareness for the protection and preservation of the sea kelp forests on the coast of Scotland”.

But, despite all of this, it was still an EPIC way to spend 50+ hours in Loch Ness, all to raise awareness for the protection and preservation of the sea kelp forests on the coast of Scotland AND YES, I’m already plotting the next adventure”.

“Finally, I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you for all the support and kind messages I’ve received over the past 72 hours! They’ve meant SO much”, the post read.
