What happened to Rob Thomas’s wife? What does Rob Thomas’s wife suffer from?

Rob Thomas, the iconic Matchbox Twenty singer, recently shared heartfelt insights into his enduring marriage with wife Marisol Maldonado and the health challenges she has bravely faced. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Thomas shed light on Maldonado’s health journey, revealing the profound impact it has had on their relationship.

Marisol Maldonado, a retired model, has confronted a series of health issues, including “Hashimoto’s disease and Lupus-like symptoms, as well as Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia,” following brain surgery. Thomas disclosed to Us that these health challenges are an ongoing part of Maldonado’s life.

The couple, married for over 21 years, has navigated through thick and thin. Thomas emphasized that their enduring bond is rooted in friendship, describing Maldonado as his “best friend.” He expressed gratitude for their deep connection, stating, “If something’s happening and she doesn’t know about it, it doesn’t feel like it’s happening.”

Despite the challenges, Thomas humorously acknowledged their “codependent” relationship, clarifying that their reliance on each other is a testament to their strong connection. “We just rely on each other a lot,” he explained.

Maldonado’s health struggles came to the forefront after a significant event in 2015 when she underwent brain surgery to remove a lesion. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with tick-borne diseases, including Neurologic Lyme Disease, Babesiosis, and Bartonella. These infections are believed to have triggered additional health complications.

Thomas shared that they are now focused on managing and controlling her conditions rather than seeking a cure. He emphasized the importance of cherishing the good days and gaining perspective on life’s challenges.

“We’ve learned a lot of perspective on those things. When you don’t have as many good days, when you have them, you really appreciate them, and you really know what to do with them,” he said. The musician highlighted the resilience of Maldonado, describing her journey as a “lifelong thing.”

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Thomas found solace and purpose in his work. He collaborated with Carlos Santana on the song “Move” and fulfilled a long-standing desire to record a Christmas album, titled “Something About Christmas Time.”

Reflecting on their experiences during the pandemic, Thomas expressed gratitude for their fortunate circumstances. “We realize how fortunate we are,” he remarked, acknowledging that he never worried about losing his job or home during challenging times.

As a celebration of their enduring love and to support a meaningful cause, Thomas will perform tracks from “Something About Christmas Time” in an exclusive livestream concert on StageIt, presented by VNUE. The event, scheduled for November 8, will benefit the Sidewalk Angels Foundation, a charitable organization founded by Thomas and Maldonado that supports no-kill animal shelters.
