According to News Cutter, the politician was attacked by a mob of protestors on Monday, May 9, 2022, in the Kottawa area.
Following this, he was taken to the Homagama hospital. The medical statement reads that the MP is being treated for injuries currently. It is reported that the injuries, luckily, were not serious.
Welgama was pulled out of the vehicle he was traveling in and assaulted. Then, his vehicle was set on fire.
