What Happened To Boxer Teofimo Lopez During Match Against George Kambosos Jr?
Boxing fans mocked Teofimo Lopez after he declared that he had defeated George Kambosos Jr, the newly crowned lightweight world champion, during the face-off in November 2021.
Sportingnews reports that the incumbent champion, Lopez, was the short-priced favorite to defeat Kambosos; before the contest, he even predicted a victory in the first-round knockout.
However, Kambosos shocked both his rival and the audience at Madison Square Garden with one of the gutsiest battles from an Australian ever seen on the international stage, winning by a split decision.
The challenger began to assert his authority late in the opening round when he down Lopez with an overhand right, and he continued to rule the middle rounds after that.
By the ninth round, it was obvious that Kambosos had the upper hand and had Lopez frightened, even though that American did land a few hits in the closing stages of the fight to make for an exciting final match.
But in the end, both the judges and the audience agreed that Kambosos was the deserving champion. Lopez had a huge cut over his right eye and appeared to be in worse shape.
