Baba Ijesha was an actor and Comedian from Nigeria who is making headlines on the web after he was sentenced for sexual assault charges.
The Special Offenses Court, Ikeja, Lagos State, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo set the lengthy legal dispute between Nollywood actor Baba Ijesha and his colleague for judgment on July 14 on Monday.
The choice was made after the court accepted the witnesses’ and prosecution’s final written addresses. Since Ijesha’s arrest and arraignment in June 2021, the alleged rape trial has lasted more than a year.
Baba Ijesha has been embroiled in a complicated rape trial since April 22, 2022, for allegedly abusing Princess’ foster daughter, who is 14 years old.
What Happened To Baba Ijesha?
Olarenwaju James, also known as Baba Ijesha, a Nigerian Nollywood actor, was convicted of sexually abusing a child.
In a two-hour ruling, Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offenses Court found Baba Ijesha guilty of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, and indecent treatment of a child.
Nevertheless, Taiwo freed him and found him not guilty of counts one and six, which involved attempted and actual sexual penetration assault.
Six counts of indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault are brought against him.
The actor refuted the charges. The relationship between him and the victim, who was allegedly a minor, was documented on a CCTV tape that was played in court.
Justice Taiwo, who gave the ruling, stated that the prosecution had not succeeded in establishing the defendant’s guilt on all counts beyond a reasonable doubt.
Baba Ijesha On Sexual Assault Charges And Sentence
Baba Ijesha, a comedian and actor in Nollywood, was given a 16-year prison sentence for sexual assault by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offenses Court.
Adeleke Lawrence, a defence witness and specialist in CCTV installation and maintenance, made this suggestion in February 2022 in front of an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offenses Court the previous year.
When Babatunde Ogala (SAN) questioned Lawrence during the Nollywood comedian’s current trial, Lawrence made a reference to this. The hearing was resumed at Ogala’s request with the playing of four Baba Ijesha videos.
The judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support claims that the troubled Nollywood actor was tortured into providing the police with a statement.
What Is The Victim Identity Of Baba Ijesha?
The victim in Baba Ijesha’s case is identified to be a 14-year-old girl who is the daughter of an actress and comedienne, Princess.
Keep in mind that Baba Ijesha was detained by Nigerian Police officers in April 2021 as a result of sexual activity with the victim since she was seven years old.
On April 19, 2021, Princess at the Sabo Police Station reported him to the authorities. For a proper investigation, he was then moved to the Gender Unit of the State CID, Panti, Yaba Lagos.
The suspect was captured on camera by a CCTV system at the complainant’s house after he admitted to the crime.
A few days later, Baba Ijesha was accused of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault by penetration, and indecently treating a child on six counts of child defilement.
The defence’s theory, according to the defence attorney, is that the individual who watched the video was not called as a witness and that the exhibit had been altered, turning it become secondary evidence.
