Amy Crawford was born on 10 January 1989, in Mountain View, California, USA, and is a career coach as well as a recruiting manager, but perhaps best known for being the wife of professional baseball player Gerrit Cole. Her husband is known for playing as the pitcher of the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB).
The Net Worth of Amy Crawford
As of mid-2020, Amy Crawford’s net worth is estimated to be over $100,000, earned through success in her career endeavors.
She probably benefits from the success of her husband as well, as Cole has a net worth reputedly over $15 million, earned through success in professional baseball, having signed high valued contracts for his work with the New York Yankees.
Early Life and Education
Amy grew up alongside three siblings in a family that loved baseball. The family often watched their local teams in California, and her siblings would also pursue careers in baseball. At the age of five, she decided on focusing on a single sport and chose baseball, which she would continue to play even as a student.
She attended Foothill High School where she played with the school’s baseball and softball teams; she was a starter during her four years in the school, mostly positioned at third base.
During her time there, she got numerous accolades, including All-State honors. After matriculating, she was intent on continuing her athletic run, and enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), one of the largest and oldest universities in California. It is considered a Public Ivy, one of the public schools in the US that has an educational system that’s comparable to that of the prestigious Ivy League.
Success in UCLA and Career After
The UCLA athletic teams are considered one of the most successful within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Their team, collectively called the Bruins have won over 129 national championships and 118 NCAA championships, second only to Stanford University.
She joined both the baseball and softball teams of the Bruins and became a part of the highly successful women’s softball team that would go on to win the Women’s College World Series in 2010.
During her time in college, she also gained her first work experience, at the San Francisco-based software company Spigit, where she interned as a part of the sales and marketing team. The company is known for using producing various software intended to help provide collective information and resources to companies. After graduating, she then took a job at Avid Ink as one of its account executives. With her success as an athlete and her association with Gerrit Cole, she then began working as a career coach for athletes, providing advice on their career direction among many other decisions they make.
She now works closely with her husband, and also retains a job at Essex Mortgage in which she serves as a recruiting manager.
Husband – Gerrit Cole
While Gerrit grew up in California, his love for the New York Yankees stems from his childhood largely influenced by his father, who was originally from New York. He grew up with a younger sister, and both were athletically inclined, pursuing sports from their youth up. He attended Orange Lutheran High School where he played for the junior varsity team as a pitcher. He gained some attention during this time due to his fastball and his outstanding win-loss record. After matriculating, he was named by many as one of the top prospects from high school.
He was selected by the New York Yankees during the 2008 MLB draft, making him the first from his school to be drafted.
However, he opted to pursue a college education first after considering the many factors, as many high school players often find difficulty transitioning within MLB, or post-career in sport. He took a scholarship to enroll at UCLA, joining the Bruins and becoming their starting pitcher. He took a year to adjust, but in 2010, he helped the Bruins on a record-breaking 51-17 record, leading them to the 2010 College World Series, but where they lost against South Carolina.
Success in Professional Baseball
In 2011, Cole rejoined the MLB draft and was one of the top talents of the class, leading him to first overall pick, by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and signed a minor league contract, the highest recorded for a rookie at $8 million. He played his first few years within the minor leagues until he was called up in 2013 due to injuries in the main roster. He quickly made a name for himself, though he still had a kit to improve with his pitching. Nevertheless, he was awarded several accolades such as Rookie of the Month and National League (NL) Pitcher of the Month.
In 2018, he was traded to the Houston Astros, and recorded a 12-hitter strikeout, setting the record for the team; during that game, he struck out 16 players, only allowing one hit. He was quickly invited to the All-Star game, and became the second pitcher to strike out 14 or more hitters in consecutive games. He continued to play with the Astros until 2019, and then signed a huge nine-year contract with the New York Yankees worth $324 million, the largest signed by a pitcher. The contract led him to have the highest average annual value of a professional baseball player in the MLB, beating the record set by Mike Trout.
Personal Life
Amy met Gerrit while both were students at UCLA. Since they were both involved in athletic teams and baseball, the two grew close as they frequented the university weight room often. After a year of being friends, the two began dating and have been together since. In 2016 the two married, holding a ceremony at Newport Beach, California attended by friends and families – four years later, they announced her pregnancy. Even though she hasn’t played baseball for some time, she still showcases a lot of competitive level skills as recorded several times by her husband. She was even able to do a strong fastball pitch while pregnant.
