The Quebe (pronounced kway-bee) sisters grew up in Krum, Denton County, where they were raised by their mother. After receiving violin lessons from Sherry F. McKenzie, a former national fiddle champion, and subsequently from Joey Mckenzie (her husband), who was also a previous national fiddle champion, the three sisters decided to create a band. The sisters learned the fiddle in the traditional Texas manner and started competing in violin competitions. They had early success, taking home a number of state, regional, and national violin competitions, among other honours. On a section of Bob Phillips’ Texas Country Reporter anthology television series, as well as on episode 571 of the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour, the Quebes were showcased. The band performed at the Cambridge Folk Festival in the United Kingdom in 2010. An episode of A Prairie Home Companion, aired from Houston, Texas, on November 20, 2010, included the Quebe Sisters and was streamed live on the internet. The trio made an appearance on Larry’s Country Diner, which aired on January 12, 2013, as well as the Marty Stuart programme on January 13, 2013.
