Nas and his ex-wife, Kelis, haven’t been on good terms in years, but the two were once regarded as one of Hollywood’s most renowned couples.
Kelis and Nas met for the first time in 2002 at a Sean’ Diddy’ Combs-hosted MTV Music Awards after-party.
The two began dating soon after, and Nas proposed to Kelis in 2002. Nearly three years after their engagement, the couple married in front of 175 guests in an Atlanta ceremony.
Despite their celebrity, the pair managed to keep their marriage hidden from view. Even three years into their marriage, rumors of Nas’ alleged adultery began to circulate, but no solid evidence could be produced.
Why did Nas and Kelis divorce?
Kelis filed for divorce from the hip-hop singer in April 2009, when she was seven months pregnant, alleging irreconcilable differences.
Kelis didn’t explain what exactly went wrong in her and Nas’ marriage until eight years after their divorce was completed.
The singer said that the rapper assaulted her throughout their five-year marriage in a 2018 interview with Hollywood Unlocked.
Not only did the famous chef label their relationship “toxic,” but she also claimed Nas would “drink too much” and pick arguments with her.
Is Nas still paying Kelis?
Nas, whose real name is Nasir Jones, will no longer be responsible for the former couple’s Los Angeles residence, which costs $13,000 per month.
