To achieve a dream, and determinationfocus are some of the most important requirements. The story behind the rise of Takkarist Mckinley, a professional footballer, is one such. He made it through the stormy seas and is now considered one of the most skilled defenders of his time.
The little promise he made to his dying grandma finally became a reality when he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2017 NFL draft. Since then he has delighted most of his fans. Here are lesser known facts about him.
Takkarist McKinley Bio
Normally, every parent’s joy should be no knowing for every time they welcome a child, but for Takkarist Mckinley, his birth on November 2, 1995 brought mixed feelings to his parents. His father was on his heels while his mother, Tedgela Mitchell, tried everything in her power to stay. Five years later she left him too and left him in the care of his grandmother, who made him the man he is today. The defense end once mentioned in an interview that his mother came back when he was seventeen but disappeared again and has not reappeared to this day.
His grandma Myrtle Collins was a woman who had everything it takes to be a mother. She wasn’t one of the richest women of her time, but she had a big heart. Myrtle took Takkarist McKinley as herself, and with the little money she got from selling cans and bottles, she gave him the best she could afford. Unfortunately, her days on Earth were cut short as she suffered a series of strokes that resulted in her death. She didn’t survive to reap what she sown in her grandson, but it should be certain that wherever she is, she’ll be proud of him.
Takkarist McKinley made a promise to his grandma On her deathbed, he promised her that he would build a better future for himself and work towards becoming a player in the National Football League himself. That promise has kept the defensive end going.
He went to the University of California, Berkley, where he was denied admission because of his grades. This did not prevent Takkarist from acquiring a solid education. He enrolled at a community college called Contra Costa College, where he worked on his grades and returned along the line to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
After playing as a defensive end in his college days, he never expected to be moved as an outside linebacker like he was during the NFL Combine. Takkarist McKinley smashed all the drills assigned to him and combined shuttles. Unfortunately, he had a torn labrum and also fractured his shoulder during this time, forcing him to undergo surgery during UCLA Pro Day that kept him from the games.
Prior to the 2017 NFL draft, sports analysts had their views on the defensive end, with some assuming he would be selected in the first round of the draft, while others concluded he would be selected in the second round. Eventually, he was selected 26th overall in the first round by the Atlanta Falcons. He later signed a four-year contract with the team worth $10.21 million, $7.89 million guaranteed with a $5.57 million signing bonus.
Height, weight, body measurements and other facts
At 6ft 2in tall we wouldn’t say it’s the perfect size for a defensive end, yet Takkarist McKinley’s height has never been an impediment on the field. Weighing in at 113kg, he has overwhelming control over his physique and has recorded an impressive number of tackles. His arm is 34 3/4 inches long and he has large hands of 9 3/4 inches.
Besides football, Takkarist McKinley is also a good sprinter. He excelled in track events during his days at Kennedy High.
From our digs, we found that the defensive end gave all of his love and attention to his late grandma and yet had no time for other ladies. However, he was spotted with Kroy Biermann’s daughter (Brielle Biermann) during the Braves game. The two decided to attend the game together after explaining their intentions in a tweet. Currently, no one knows if this game spawned a love journey. Anyway, let’s keep our fingers crossed and see what happens next.
