Shoichiro Toyoda, a Japanese businessman who presided over Toyota Motor Corporation from 1992 to 1999 and the prominent Japan Business Federation from 1994 to 1998, was born Toyoda Shichir on February 27, 1925, and he passed away on February 14, 2023. Toyota gave the go-ahead for the creation of the Prius hybrid and the Lexus brand under Toyoda’s direction.
He was the son of Kiichiro Toyoda, the man who founded Toyota Motors, and the grandson of Sakichi Toyoda, the man who founded Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. The president of the Toyota Motor Corporation at the moment is his son, Akio Toyoda.
Toyoda, the firm founder’s son, began working for Toyota Motors in 1952. He had advanced to the post of managing director in ten years. He received promotions to executive vice president in 1972, senior managing director in 1967, and president of the business’ marketing division in 1981.
Toyota Motor Corporation was created in 1982 as a result of the combination of the sales and production departments. The new organization’s first president was Toyoda. He had to pay attention to the diverse nature of the two different corporate cultures, and his leadership was largely responsible for how successfully the “oil and water” of these two Toyota divisions were combined. From 1992 until 1999, he presided as chairman. In 1999, he was named honorary chairman.
