Following the shooting death of a man in a restaurant in Port Moresby last week, a Papua New Guinean MP has been charged with murder. The MP for Moresby North-West, Lohia Boe Samuel, was having supper with Robert Jerry and another guy at Fushion 2 restaurant on Friday 11 March when a pistol was discharged, killing Jerry, according to police.
Robert Jerry, 38, of Morobe is survived by his wife and seven small children, the youngest of them is a seven-month-old infant.
According to Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Wagambie, the incident occurred between 7 and 8 p.m. on Friday.

Samuel is a first-term government member of parliament, having been elected in a by-election last year. Beldan Namah, the leader of the opposition, has demanded Samuel’s immediate resignation while the criminal case is being investigated.
Police will accuse Samuel of owning and licensing the pistol, according to Wagambie.
“The MP was summoned to Boroko Police Station and led to the NCD Homicide department, where he was charged under PNG Criminal Code Act section 300 sub section (1) (b)(ii).”
Regardless of intent, that clause applies to acts committed for an unlawful purpose and likely to “endanger human life.”
Another individual who was there at the time of the occurrence, according to Wagambie, was accused as an accomplice in the murder case.
However, the individual in the hat has not been identified.
Both Samuel and the other guy are being held at the Boroko police station and have been denied bail, according to Wagambie.
Lohia Boe Samuel Murder Charges On Robert Jerry
Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Jr, National Capital District (NCD)/Central commander, said Lohia Boe Samuel was led to the NCD homicide and charged under Section 300 sub section (1) (b)(ii) of the PNG Criminal Code Act for the mureder of Robert Jerry.
He also said that the Member of Parliament owns and has a license for the handgun.
Before making the arrest yesterday, Wagambie said, detectives had to combine together facts and evidence.
Samuel was with one of his employees and the dead (Robert Jerry, 38, a father of seven who was one of the MP’s campaign organizers) at the time of the incident.
“While we understand the sentiments and public uproar that has been expressed via various kinds of media, the police have a constitutional obligation to fulfill and must stay focused during the inquiry,” Wagambie added.
