Finch was one of eight persons detained as part of an investigation into the transmission of child abuse material over a telephone chat line. They ranged in age from 34 to 71.

However, the NRL star has been granted conditional bail. His bail condition restricts him from being around young children. He is also restricted from going near places frequented by children, including video arcades, playgrounds, schools child care facilities, concerts, or sporting venues.

Brett is also banned from using the internet and accessing social media platforms. He also cannot make contact or attempt to make contact with anyone below age 16 years old except his immediate family members.
