Mayadhar Nayak is a veteran trade unionist,Farmer’s Leader, Land issue expert and a known Odia writer of post-independence era. The all-party meeting convened to discuss the land acquisition and reform Bill in India during 2013 on the theory of ‘Land to Let or lease’ theory instead ‘Land to Sell” is believed to be originally taken from his book “Land To Let” which is a concept initially originated from Odisha.
Family and education
Born to Gangadhar Nayak and Hiramani Devi, Mr. Nayak graduated in Humanities, Post-Graduated in economics from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. His wife Mrs.Indira Das is also known for her writings and social Works. Mr.Mayadhar Nayak’s Son Akash DasNayak is an Odia Film actor and a Member Of Assembly for Korei Constituency.
Political career
Mr.Nayak has joined politics in 1964 and 1969 all Odisha Student’s movements, then he switched on directly to politics .
As a Trade Union Leader,he has visited Kremlin in 1988 to make an in-depth of the working class there. He has worked as a leader for mines workers, peasants, port workers, steel workers and paper mill workers till date and always voiced against the Land Acquisition.He had invited the wrath and disdain of the powers who ruled the State during the era of emergency and so was put behind the bars for over a period of 19 months, languishing in Cuttack Central Jail from June 1975 to January 1977.His Delhi March with 10,000 committed suffering people demanding a national calamity status for Odisha due to killer super cyclone of 1999, is a record of history.
Other activities
He was known as an all time dare devil reporter during the war fronts in Bangladesh from where he used to report Odisha for “The Samaj”.He served as an Editor “Odisha Bhuin” that is known for its free and fearless opinions.
