In Africa, women have a long history of bringing obstacles under control to keep their heads above the water. No wonder, then, when African women are recognized and awarded across the continent and around the world for their excellence in their various fields of activity. In Kenya, for example, a list of national media sensations will not be complete if Julie Gichuru is absent from such a list. A renowned entrepreneur and media personality, Gichuru is involved in more than three booming economic sectors in Kenya.

Besides being the most successful woman, she is a TV presenter in Kenya and one of the most influential women personalities in the East African country. To her credit, Gichuru has earned great respect as an acclaimed journalist and brand ambassador for many charities in Kenya and Africa.

In this article, we bring out everything you need to know about this iconic media star, including lesser-known facts you can’t find elsewhere.

Julie Gichuru Biography, Dude

Julie Gichuru was born on January 7, 1974 in Nairobi. She spent much of her childhood in Dagoretti, Nairobi – just along Wanyee Road, Nairobi.

Julie’s parents come from two different ethnic backgrounds. Her mother is a Kikuyu from Kiambu (a region in the former Central Province of Kenya), while her father is from Kashmir, a state in northern India.

Her father reportedly entered Kenya as a migrant in the early 1990s. He later took a job with the railway company being built by the British government at the time.

Julie attended St. Christopher’s School in Nairobi from where she went to the Green Herald in Bangladesh where her father was military trained. She then enrolled at Karen C School in Karen, where she spent one semester before transferring to Loreto Convent Msongari in Standard 4.

She completed her grades 3 and 4 at Imani School in Thika. However, this came after she was released from the local 8-4-4 system to GCE boarding school.

Although Julie is proud today thanher childhood dream was to become an actress. She pursued her childhood ambitions by enrolling in acting classes at the Phoenix Theater in Nairobi, which was low income and in its infancy at the time.

Because of these limitations, Julie dropped out of drama school and decided to study law. During her college years, Julie Gichuru worked in a food factory in the UK to help her father raise her school fees. She first worked in a food division where her main task was to identify and remove contaminated products from the food chain.

Today, Gichuru is a professional criminal lawyer, having earned an LLB degree and an MBA degree from the University of Wales Cardiff Law School and Cardiff Business School respectively.

Upon returning from law school, she secured a position with the Kenya Television Network (KTN). She later joined Capital FM before landing a reporting gig at KTN. From there she moved to NTV (established in 1999) and then to Royal Media Services.

Julie’s 15+ years of experience in broadcast, print and digital media has seen her pioneer on an impressive number of television shows in Kenya. She currently works at state-owned Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) after her shock exit from Citizen TV in 2017.

Julie Gichuru Family – Husband, Wedding, Children

Famous TV personality Julie Gichuru is married to Anthony Gichuru, a practicing pilot and entrepreneur. Tony is said to come from one of the richest families in Kenya.

The perfect lovebirds walked down the aisle in a lavish wedding on November 29, 2003, and their marriage produced five children. Julie would have been a mother to five children, but she lost her son, David Arthur Mwaura, sometime in 2005. Not only was she devastated by the death of her child, the tragedy nearly brought her to her knees and has left her traumatized to this day.

After a recent interview by Drum , Julie admitted that her child’s death was the lowest point in her life and she still writes poetry to her late son to keep the memories fresh.

Despite this, supermama and her other children – Daniel Gichuru, Joseph Gichuru, Kimoshe Gichuru and Njeri Gichuru – managed to put the tragedy behind them.

Although Julie has a multitude of fans and is an admirer, she makes sure to keep much of her family and personal life private. In our opinion, this could have led to various misunderstandings and endless speculation about the legendary journalist.

house and salary

Contrary to popular belief, media icon Julie Gichuru does not come from a wealthy family. In fact, her college education had such a big impact on her family that her father struggled to guide her through college.

Today, the well-known TV icon is proud of her numerous investments in Kenya. Most of her net worth comes from the ordinary income she earns from her businesses, salary and other ventures.

In addition to her interests in film, Julie owns a production house called Arimus as well as an online fashion house called MIMI. She and her husband also started a foundation called: The Footprints Africa Foundation.

We believe Julie Gichuru, the newsbank host, television personality and journalist makes an impressive and reasonable annual salary. Though her annual salary has yet to be released, her net worth is said to be around $400,000 .

About her house it was recently reported that her family bought a new house in Kenya. After thorough research we can confirm that Julie, Tony and their four children are all comfortable in their new home. The location of the superhouse is yet to be revealed to the media, but we’re pretty sure it’s somewhere in one of Nairobi’s premier suburbs.
