Juan Jumalon, a radio host for a station in Misamis Occidental province, was fatally shot in his home Sunday morning, police said.

Juan Jumalon, 57, aka DJ Johnny Walker, was broadcasting his Gold FM 94.7 show from his home in Calamba in the northern Misamis Occidental province.
The gunman asked permission to enter the radio station to announce “something important”, local newspaper Cebu Daily News reported as part of police’s initial findings.
He then shot Mr Jumalon twice, while the show was being live-streamed on Mr Jumalon’s Facebook page. The attacker snatched the victim’s gold necklace before fleeing with a companion, who waited outside the house on a motorcycle, police said.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, a press freedom watchdog, said Mr Jumalon was the 199th journalist to be killed in the country since 1986 when democracy returned after an uprising toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos, the father of the current president.
