Taylor initially formed the band Duran Duran with friends Nick Rhodes and Stephen Duffy. Simon Le Bon later became the vocalist for the group. Taylor played guitar for the band. Later, he switched to the bass guitar. The band released their first album in 1981 and soon received widespread fame.

Later, alongside Andy Taylor, Tony Thompson, and Robert Palmer formed the band The Power Station. Additionally, they released one album titled ‘The Power Station’. After Andy Taylor and Roger Taylor left, the remaining members reformed Duran Duran and released the 1986 ‘Notorious’ album.

Coming to his solo career, Taylor co-founded the independent record label B5 Records in 1996.
