Findlay was born Jessica Rose Brown Findlay on September 14, 1989 in Cookham, Berkshire, United Kingdom. From an early age, Findlay aspired to be a ballerina and trained for it by participating in the National Youth Ballet and the Associates of the Royal Ballet. By the age of around 15, the young dancer had started to make a name for herself and was invited to dance for a summer season with the Kirov Ballet at the Royal Opera House in London.
Jessica Brown Findlay then earned her GCSE title after attending Furze Platt Senior School in Maidenhead, Berkshire. She was then accepted into a number of ballet schools but decided against this option, preferring instead to enroll in the Arts Educational School, a performing arts school offering A-level classes and a pastoral. She spent two years in school before developing an ankle problem that required surgery. Findlay underwent three ankle surgeries, the last of which was unsuccessful and caused more damage to the leg, ending her ambition to become a dancer.
