Jaret Lansford Articles
Staying chilly with light precipitation possible late in the day
The cold temperatures that moved in yesterday are hunkering down over the area with the 20s to start the day and highs only forecast to reach the upper 30s.
For context, the average high for today is 58 in Sioux City so we will be well below average. Skies will be mostly cloudy and we will even have the chance for some light rain and snow showers as we head into the afternoon and evening hours.
The higher chance will be south of Sioux City where up to half an inch of snow will be possible before it ends this evening. There will be some clearing overnight with lows near 20 degrees. The cold is going to hold strong as we move through the week with highs still in the 30s through Wednesday.
Clouds will be with us for the most part during that stretch and we will again have the chance for some light rain and snow Wednesday. Up to an inch will be possible in the southern counties. We do get some sunshine for Halloween with highs still well below average near 40 degrees. A slight warming trend carries into the weekend with dry weather.
Jaret Lansford Weather
Sunshine stays, warmer temperatures return
It was a cool but fairly nice day on Thursday with the return of sunshine. The sun will be with us again today with southerly winds at 10 to 15 mph. That southerly flow will help to boost our highs into the upper 50s, right near average for this time of year and about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday.
High pressure will keep us quiet as we head through the night and into our Saturday with clear skies remaining overhead. We will have a bit of a breeze through the day but it will again be a mild and pleasant day. However, big changes will push in with a front that sweeps through Saturday night.
A snowflake or two may move on Sunday morning but the main story will be a nearly 20-degree drop off in our highs from Saturday to Sunday.
We will stay well below average through the workweek and will get a reinforcing shot of cold air Monday night with a system that may bring a bit of light snow into the area. Highs struggle into the 30s for the middle of the week but should recover a bit for Halloween.
