Sources have reported that Bernard Membe, 69, a former diplomat and minister of foreign affairs for Tanzania, passed away at a Dar es Salaam hospital. The reason for death was not right away disclosed.
He worked for President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete from 2007 until 2015 as the foreign minister.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed her sorrow after learning of his passing in a statement of condolence delivered after his passing.
“The news of Bernard Membe’s passing came as a shock to me. Membe was a distinguished public servant, diplomat, member of parliament, and minister who professionally served our nation for more than 40 years,” she stated on her Twitter account.”
Membe’s political career began in 2000 when he won the general election and was chosen to represent the Mtama seat as a CCM Member of Parliament. In 2005 and 2010, he was re-elected.
