Ian Bairnson Obituary

Known for being a founding member of The Alan Parsons Project, Scottish singer Ian Bairnson was quite accomplished. His most well-known instrument was the guitar, but he also played the saxophone and keyboards. He gained notoriety for preferring the sound of a sixpence to a plectrum.

He worked as a session guitarist before to joining the band Pilot in 1973 with David Paton and Billy Lyall, both ex-Bay City Rollers. He helped with the first three and fourth albums of Kate Bush, Lionheart, The Dreaming, and Never for Ever. He appeared on Chris Postl’s 2009 album Parzivals Eye, a German bassist.
