How to install jupyter lab

Visit https://jupyter.org/try and choose ‘try JupyterLab‘ option. The launcher tab shows currently available kernels and consoles. You can start a new notebook based/terminal based on any of them. The left column is also having tabs for file browser, running kernels and tabs and settings view.

If you wish to know where Jupyter isinstalled on your computer, you may run where jupyter in the Command prompt. If you wish to know which Python version is installed, run python or python -V or python –version .

JupyterHub, a multi-user Hub, spawns, manages, and proxies multiple instances of the single-user Jupyter notebook server. JupyterHub can be used to serve notebooks to a class of students, a corporate data science group, or a scientific research group.

On Linux and other free desktop platforms, these runtime files are stored in $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/jupyter by default. On other platforms, it’s a runtime/ subdirectory of the user’s data directory (second row of the table above).

Getting Anaconda

We recommend that you download the latest version of Anaconda and then make a Python 3.5 (or 3.6) environment. Or download the latest version of Anaconda and run the following command to install Python 3.5 (or 3.6) in the root environment: conda install python=3.5 or conda install python=3.6 .

conda is able to install a fairly large amount of non-Python packages, so this takes care of your non-Python software dependencies as much as possible.

Python is most praised for its elegant syntax and readable code, if you are just beginning your programming career python suits you best. Anaconda belongs to “Data Science Tools” category of the tech stack, while Python can be primarily classified under “Languages”.

Anaconda. Now, if you are primarily doing data science work, Anaconda is also a great option. Anaconda is created by Continuum Analytics, and it is a Python distribution that comes preinstalled with lots of useful python libraries for data science.

Though they are independent tools, PyCharm and AnaConda can be used together for projects that can benefit from both tools. PyCharm is an IDE built to make it easier to write Python code, by providing a text editor and debugging, among other features. Anaconda is a Python distribution focused on data driven projects.

You don’t need to install Python if you installed Anaconda. You may want to set your path for python and conda if you are on a windows. You can learn more about it here .

Pip installs Python packages whereas conda installs packages which may contain software written in any language. Another key difference between the two tools is that conda has the ability to create isolated environments that can contain different versions of Python and/or the packages installed in them.

In summary, when combining conda and pip, it is best to use an isolated conda environment. Only after conda has been used to install as many packages as possible should pip be used to install any remaining software.

Both pip and conda are included in Anaconda and Miniconda, so you do not need to install them separately.

The conda Tensorflow packages leverage the Intel® Math Kernel Library for Deep Neural Networks (Intel® MKL-DNN) starting with version 1.9. 0. Not only does the MKL library speed up your Tensorflow packages, it also speeds up other widely used libraries like NumPy, SciPy, and Scikit-Learn!

However, it does mean that the index metadata is always growing, and thus conda becomes slower as the number of packages increase. Either packages need to move to archive channels over time, or the server needs to present a reduced view of all available packages.

You will need to install Cuda drivers sepeeately and add them to the system path. Just follow the tutorial on the Tensorflow website. In the end, installation of Tensorflow is just requires a few more steps than a regular Python package and only if you are installing Tensorflow 2.0 RC with GPU support.
