How to get rid of tear troughs

Because the tear trough isn’t a very mobile place (unlike your lips or forehead), it takes your body longer to “eat up” the hyaluronic acid. This means your results should usually last between one and two years.

What causes a tear trough?

A tear trough deformity is present around the medial part of the lower eyelid (near the nose) when the overlying skin thins out with age and the underlying muscle and lower eyelid fat bags become more prominent. For some it is caused by the lifestyle that they lead which causes skin laxity to age prematurely.

How do you get rid of tear troughs without surgery?

Using tiny injections of a hyaluronic acid dermal filler such as Juvederm Volbella or Vollure, the tear trough depression is gently filled. This gives it a smoother, healthier look by removing the hollowness and shadowing that creates the dark “circles” under the eyes.

What is the best treatment for tear trough?

If you have deep creases under your eyes, tear trough fillers may be an option. The procedure typically involves injecting hyaluronic acid beneath your lower eyelids. This makes the area look fuller. Since the effects are temporary, you’ll need to repeat the treatment every 1 or 2 years.

Can you go blind from tear trough filler?

Although rare, complications from dermal fillers can be devastating. The most serious complications are vascular. Vascular occlusions can lead to necrosis (tissue death), scarring and, even more seriously, blindness. Indeed, dermal fillers have already led to 98 reported cases of blindness (Beleznay et al, 2015).

What can go wrong with tear trough fillers?

Following tear trough filler, some patients may experience swelling under the eye area or in the mid-cheek region. This occurs when filler is incorrectly placed above the orbicularis retaining ligament or is inserted under the skin too superficially.

Should you massage under eye filler?

How long does it take for eye fillers to settle?

Fortunately, dermal fillers work very quickly, and you won’t have to wait twelve months to see the full benefits of your injections. That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it’s normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.

You can minimize the swelling by icing or applying a cold compress.
