Nina Nunes was born on 3rd December 1985 in Weston, Florida. It can be seen that her maternal grandparents descend from North Macedonia However, she has not disclosed any information about her parents or siblings in the media.

Nunes started practicing taekwondo at the age of 6 and began training in martial arts in 2009 in order to lose weight to keep in shape after a motorcycle accident.

She made her professional debut in 2010 by competing in regional promotions. She also assembled the record of 5-3 before joining Invicta FC.

She made her debut in UFC at UFC 56 on 8th November 2014, against Juliana Lima but lost the fight by unanimous decision. Due to her sickness at UFC 187, she was pulled out from the event entirely on 23rd May 2015.

On 9th July 2022, she was expected to face Cynthia Calvillo in a flyweight at UFC on ESPN 39 but she withdrew due to illness and it was canceled.
