Born to a British Jewish family in Northampton on 13 October 1967, Michael Ellis underwent private education at two independent schools.

These were the Spratton High School, located in Northamptonshire, and the Wellingborough school, located in the town of Wellingborough. The former was a preparatory school.

Following his time in the two schools, Ellis would pursue higher education at the University of Buckingham. His time here would prove fruitful as not only did he obtain an upper-second class LL.B. but also won the Aylesbury Vale District Council Chairman’s Prize for the Best Performance in Public Law.

He had many other notable achievements at the university, mainly as the student editor of the Denning Law Jornal, the school’s peer-reviewed and open-access law journal. Ellis also participated in an exchange program with the College of William and Mary and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law in Williamsburg, Virginia, in the United States.

Michael Ellis’ Career History

Michael Ellis’ political career stretches back to 1995 when he stood as the Conservative candidate in the Park ward of the Northampton Borough Council.

Unfortunately, Ellis’ first foray into politics was unsuccessful as his 1995 candidacy did not prove fruitful, and he would step back for a couple of years. However, just two years later, Ellis would campaign again, but this time got elected as a Conservative councilor on Northamptonshire County Council.

His win was historic for Northamptonshire as, at the time o his election, he was the youngest county councilor. He was 29 years old.

Ellis’ win proved a great success as this candidacy was the same one he ran for two years ago. The only difference was that the name of the Northampton Park Ward he would be representing had changed to Parklands Ward.

He won the seat from his Labor Party rival by just 44 votes. Ellis served in this seat until the next election in 2001 but chose not to run again.

From here on, Ellis’ fruitful political career would grow only deeper. He became the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Northampton North in December 2006. They elected Ellis to the Parliament in the 6 May 2010 general election.

He has remained in Parliament since then and has only risen higher through the ranks. Given the state of British politics, there’s no telling what the future holds for Michael Ellis.
