A 62 years old man from Missouri, Kevin Strickland has been exonerated after 43 years of wrongful conviction. Let us find about his compensation and others in detail.
Kevin Strickland is a very fierce and strong person who remained determined about his condition and was always in denial of his charge.
In spite of his denial, an all-white jury in the year 1979 held that he was guilty of the murder of three different people without physical evidence.
He had been addressing his sentence at Western Missouri Correctional Center in Cameron, Missouri all-knowing inside that he was never guilty.
How Much Compensation Did Kevin Strickland Get?
Kevin Strickland is not getting any compensation for his wrongful conviction as his exoneration did not take place through DNA evidence.
There is a provision in the US laws that, only the people exonerated through DNA evidence will be allowed wrongful imprisonment payments.
This has been a rule given by the state and through this, Kevin does not qualify in getting compensated although it seems total injustice.
Although there is no way someone can grant him his precious 43 years back through compensation, still they are looking up to the judiciary.
People have been raising their voices about this and asking the concerned authorities to look after it solving the problem as soon as possible.
Why Is Kevin Strickland In Wheelchair?
Kevin Strickland became the victim of spinal stenosis due to two consecutive heart attacks during his jail time and he cannot stand upright.
The false imprisonment not only ruined his life financially but his physical condition also got hampered in a very critical way which is very sad to hear.
He has been in a wheelchair for several years now and can only move with the help of a wheelchair and also needs the support of another person.
But he has been very determined about his condition and wants to fight with every challenge that will arise in front of him on his life journey ahead.
