Hosea Lorenzo Williams (January 5, 1926 – November 16, 2000) was a civil rights activist, ordained pastor, businessman, philanthropist, scientist, and politician in the United States. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He is perhaps most known for being a trusted part of the inner circle of Martin Luther King, Jr., a renowned civil rights leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who died in 1968. Under the banner of their flagship organisation, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, King and his supporters relied on Williams to organise and stir large crowds of people into nonviolent direct action in the myriad of protest campaigns they waged against racial, political, economic, and social injustice.
Williams was instrumental in organising and stirring large crowds of people into nonviolent direct action in the myriad of protest campaigns they waged against racial, political, economic, and social injustice. William Williams, King’s main field lieutenant, was described to both as his “bull in a china closet” and as his “Castro” by King. The founder of Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless, which provides food to the poor and homeless on holidays across North America, Williams was inspired by his personal experience with King and his vow to continue King’s work for the poor. Williams is also known as the founder and president of one of the largest social services organisations that provides food to the poor and homeless on holidays across North America.
