A national treasure, Father Bob Maguire, AM, has dedicated his life to helping and defending the rights of the poor and homeless in our society.
Since being appointed as the parish priest of Sts. Peter and Paul’s Church in South Melbourne in 1973, Father Bob has been actively involved in community outreach for over 45 years.
He constructed 42 dwellings for the homeless as part of his last charitable work at the church.
His charitable work is still being done today through the Father Bob Maguire Foundation, a secular organization based in Port Phillip that runs an outreach program, and a scholarship program, and provides thousands of meals each month.
The City of Port Phillip will get a Community Hub that will serve as a “meeting place,” according to Father Bob’s long-held dream.
The goal is to raise $1 million through a trust account set up, particularly for donations to the “Community Hub.”
