There are no details about his partner on the Internet. However, he as an artist had been surrounded by controversy for over a decade now.
He had been living under police protection after his sketch of Prophet Mohammad with a dog’s head was publicized in 2007. It obviously offended people who follow the Prophet that eventually resulted in welcoming death threats from the cartoonist.
It is not just death threats but he also escaped two failed murder attempts during all these times. He was known outside of his country for his Prophet’s drawing.
However, at home in Sweden, he was popular for building a sculpture made of driftwood in a nature reserve in southern Sweden without permission, triggering a lengthy legal battle.
His career has been full of controversy and now he has sadly passed away because of a traffic collision as per the police reports.
Reports Claim Lars Vilks Died In An Accident
Lars Vilks is said to have died in a car accident. The Swedish news agency TT said that the police has claimed that the artist, age 75, was travelling in a civilian police car with two police officers when a truck collided with them and caught fire on Sunday afternoon outside Markayard.
It is said that the two officers who were travelling with him has also allegedly died in the accident but the truck driver is taken to the hospital.
The head of the regional investigation unit responsible for police protection told that it was a tragic incident and it is important to find out what caused the collision.
Previously, when his controversial drawing was released, an al-Qaida faction in Iraq in response to it placed a $100,000 bounty on his head. Likewise, in 2013, a woman named Jihad Jane was sentenced to 10 years of prison for plotting to kill him.
