Flores was born on February 24, 1981, and was raised in Brownsville, a suburb of Brooklyn, New York to Honduran Parents. He went to Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn. After that, he went to Boston College where he played football as a linebacker from 1999 to 2003. Flores was pretty good at football but injury prevented him from playing in the NFL.
Flores’ coaching career started in 2004 after he joined the New England Patriots as a scouting assistant. The same year, Patriots won the Super Bowl XXXIX. In 2006, he became a pro scout and two years later, he moved to the coaching staff as a special teams coaching assistant. In 2010, his position was changed to assistant coach offense/special teams. A year later, he was named defensive assistant followed by a safeties coach in 2012.
In 2016, Flores was assigned the role of linebackers’ coach for the Patriots. Two years later, he took over the Patriots’ defensive playcalling duties but was not given the title of defensive coordinator.
On February 4, 2019, Flores was hired as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. With that role, he became the fourth Latino in NFL history to become a head coach. Three others are Ron Rivera, Tom Fears, and Tom Flores. His debut game as a head coach was against the Baltimore Ravens where the Dolphins lost by a score of 59-10. In their second week, Dolphins lost 43-0 to the New England Patriots.
Flores got his first win as a head coach in a 26-18 home victory over the New York Jets. He then earned his next win against the Indianapolis Colts. Under his leadership, the Dolphins finished the 2019 season with a 5-11 record.
Regarding his personal life, Flores is married to Jennifer Duncan Flores. Brian and Jennifer first met during college. They didn’t attend the same school, but both chose to vacation in Acapulco for spring break one year. Jennifer and Brian have three children together: two sons named Miles and Maxwell, and a daughter named Liliana.
