Boston Celtics Tv and Radio Announcers Tonight

Boston Celtics TV announcers are Mike Gorman and Brian Scalabrine. Gorman has been calling play by play for the Celtics since 1981.

Meanwhile, Sean Grande, Cedric Maxwell, Chris Forsberg, Kendrick Perkins, Abby Chin, and Chris Mannix backup the whole broadcast team.

Boston has one of the most insightful and engaging broadcast teams in the NBA, with the TV section led by veteran announcer Mike Gorman.

Gorman is a five-time Emmy Award and the 2021 Curt Gowdy Award winner. This 2022/23 season is his 42nd as their play-by-play announcer.

Likewise, the Celtics Radio Network also includes top-notch sportscasters who constantly provide match updates, analysis, and key information.

Boston Celtics Commentators List

Commentators for Boston Celtics over the years are:

  • Brian Scalabrine (2014 – Present)
  • Tom Heinsohn (1981 to 2018)
  • Bob Cousy (1974 – 1999)
  • Mike Lynch (1988–94)
  • Bob Lobel (1989–93)

Brian Scalabrine

Known as the “White Mamba,” Brian Scalabrine first joined Comcast SportsNet New England as a commentator in September 2012. Comcast rebranded the network as NBC Sports Boston in 2017 under the NBC Sports brand.

He had turned down an opportunity to become an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls to start his broadcasting career. In 2014, he became a full-time broadcaster and has been with the Celtics since then.

Brian then extended his contract with NBC Sports and has since covered every live game of the Celts in 2021, the same year Mike joined the network as the announcer.

In April 2023, Brian took on Mike’s responsibility of calling the Celtics’ games as their play-by-play announcer since Mike was out due to eye surgery.

Scalabrine’s in-depth knowledge about the sport comes from his past experience as a pro-NBA player for 11 years. He was selected by the Jets as the 34th overall in the second round in 2001 but only made his NBA debut a year later due to injury.

Moreover, Brian played with the Green Team from 2005 to 2010 and the Bulls for the latter season. He ultimately played for an Italian team, Treviso, in 2011 before returning to the Bulls.

Celtics Radio Broadcasters

Boston Celtics radio broadcast is done by:

  • Sean Grande
  • Cedric Maxwell

Sean Grande

Sean Grande has been the Celtics Radio play-by-play announcer since 2001. Grande is only behind Johnny Most and Mike Gorman in calling more games in the franchise’s history.

Moreover, he attained the third position in December 2009 in terms of calling 1,000 NBA games before turning 40. The veteran broadcaster called his 2,000th in the NBA Playoff Bubble on August 21, 2020.

Sean is a 1993 graduate of Boston University and spent the next seven years calling hockey, football, and basketball on television and radio for the Terriers. He joined NBA in 1998 and has primarily called on basketball games.

However, he also called Bellator MMA, PBC on FOX, and Top Rank Boxing on ESPN till 2019. Grande and Mauro Ranallo have shared their play-by-play duties time and again on Showtime as of 2021.

Cedric Maxwell

Cedric Maxwell, aka “Cornbread,” started his broadcasting career in 2001 alongside Grande. The duo is famously known as “Grande and Max” for their long history of calling the Celts games on the radio.

As of 2021, the two surpassed the team of Mike Gorman and Tom Heinsohn for calling the most Celtics games in history. He and his partner are some of the experienced Boston radio broadcast personnel at the WBZ-FM radio station.

Maxwell won the NBA Championship with Boston in 1981 and 1984. Furthermore, he was also awarded the 1981 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. He was initially picked by the Green team in the 1977 NBA Draft.

Cornbred had spent his last three seasons with LA Clippers and Houston Rockets before retiring. His jersey number 31 was retired as a mark of honor by Boston on December 15, 2003.

Boston Celtics Analysts

Celtics analysts for the 2022/23 season are:

  • Chris Forsberg
  • Kendrick Perkins

Chris Forsberg

After spending nine years at ESPN, Chris Forsberg joined the NBC Sports broadcast team in 2018. He covered the Celtics for ESPN and decided to join the team for good later.

Chris graduated from Northeastern University and started his sports journalism career as a college intern at the Boston Globe. He initially spent three years at Boston.com, where he bagged an Emmy for his coverage of the Celtics in 2008.

Forsberg was born with unilateral hearing loss as he was born three months premature. Hence, he has speech issues as he mainly talks towards his left side, his only functional ear.

Besides his media career, he is also an advocate for the Hearing Aid Project. Chris has more than 100k followers on his Twitter account.

Kendrick Perkins

Kendrick “Perk” Perkins played in the NBA from 2003 to 2018. Thanks to his lengthy playing career, Perk has been a notable face on air.

He is the current co-host for ESPN Hoop Streams. Meanwhile, he is also dedicated as an on-air sports commentator for NBC Sports Boston.

Kendrick grew up playing different sports and became friends with LeBron James during their teen years. He was then selected 27th overall by the Celtics in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft.

Perk played with the Green Team till 2011 and also became the 2008 NBA Champion under the tutelage of head coach Doc Rivers. He later went on to play for Oklahoma, Cleveland and the Pelicans.

Celtics Sideline Reporters

The following names make up the current Celtics sideline reporting team:

  • Abby Chin
  • Chris Mannix

Abby Chin

Abigail Chin, also known as Abby, has been the Celtics’ sideline reporter since September 2013. Besides reporting to the team from the courtside, she also covers the team’s pre and postgame moments on TV.

Abby is a 2004 Broadcast Journalism graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder. She started her career as a City Desk Intern for Denver Post and later moved to ESPN as a production assistant.

Chin only started reporting sports events in April 2008 with Raycom Media.  Since then, she has reported for WIAT CBS42, Comcast Sportsnet Northwest, and Comcast Sportsnet New England.

Chris Mannix

Chris Mannix sometimes fills in as an NBA analyst and sideline reporter for the Celts’ network. He was a locker room attendant with the Celtics for eight seasons from 1995 to 2003.

During that time, he also covered high school sports for the Boston Globe. As NBA has become his side career, Chris mainly reports on boxing.

With the NBC Sports Group, Mannix made his Olympic debut as a boxing reporter at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. As of 2023, he currently serves as the host of The Chris Mannix Show on NBC Sports Radio.

He also reports for NBC and NBCSN’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) coverage. Likewise, he has also worked as a senior writer for Yahoo Sports and Sports Illustrated for over a decade.

Mannix primarily covers boxing but has extensive knowledge of other sports as well. He recently covered the highly talked-about Ryan Garcia vs. Tank Davis fight and reported on the bout’s No Rehydration clause.
