Howard Lawton, the head of a nursing home, wanted Ferrara, who is older than her, to make him a scapegoat for her, according to new court documents.
“I would like to be your slave and you can be my master,” Lawton allegedly told Ferrara on August 22, the same day he began his work as a chef for Healthcare Services Group, Inc., at his Phillipsburg location.
The boss showed Ferrera a necklace and bracelet with the letters “MAESTRO” on her computer and said, “I really want to order this,” the newspapers say.
“I will give you the key, and then you will truly be my teacher,” Lawton added, according to the documents.
Ferrara “backed off” and told Lawton that she was “out of [his hers] hers mind,” the documents state. She told Lawton that she did not feel safe and that she would not go to work, she says I brought it from her.
A day later, on August 28, Lawton told Ferrera he would fire her from her for the 2005 felony on her record, even though Ferrara had disclosed the crime in her application. Lawton’s uproar over her former arrest was just a pretext, as she was actually firing her from her in retaliation for turning him down, the court file alleges.
Ferrara, who suffered domestic violence in the past, stated that “emotionally [Lawton] took me back 20 years.
“Now I don’t want to work for a man,” she told The Post. “I just don’t want anyone to put me in the position that he put me in.”
Ferrera was never paid for her first week of work and she is also seeking back pay, future wages, and other unspecified damages, according to the lawsuit.

“My first thought was to thank God my granddaughters are not here because they are always grabbing my phone to play games,” Ferrara told The Post. “My second thought was, ‘I’ve had enough.’
