An Israeli entrepreneur named Zohar Zisapel lived from February 15, 1949, to May 19, 2023. In the middle of the 1970s, Yehuda Zisapel, Zohar’s older brother, established a modest, private business that specialized in the marketing of data communications goods. In Israel throughout the latter half of the 1970s, Bynet sold data communications products that were all made elsewhere.
RAD Data Communications Ltd. was established in 1981 by Zohar Zisapel and Yehuda after he left his employment as a defense ministry employee. Zohar oversaw the creation of RAD’s first item, a tiny modem that would completely alter the industry, working out of tight, claustrophobic quarters in the back of Bynet’s offices. Without a parent company, each company operated on its own, yet they were all managed under a single strategic plan.
