American professional basketball player Xavier Justis Tillman Sr. is presently playing for the Memphis Grizzlies in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He developed his basketball abilities while playing for the Michigan State Spartans in college.
At Grand Rapids, Michigan’s Forest Hills Central High School, Tillman started playing basketball. He had a strong rookie season, averaging 13.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks per game.
He received a special mention for Class A All-State by the Associated Press as a consequence. Even more impressively, he led his club to a 23-1 record and the regional playoffs in his second season while averaging 15.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.
Tillman made the decision to move to Grand Rapids Christian High School in 2015 because he wanted to concentrate on his academics and felt there wasn’t enough diversity of culture at Forest Hills Central.
His mother wanted him to stay at Forest Hills Central, while his father supported his transfer, therefore this choice led to a court disagreement between his parents. Tillman was eventually permitted to transfer, but the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) transfer regulations prevented him from participating in his first semester.
His immediate eligibility was appealed, but it was rejected. Tillman continued to develop during his junior season at Grand Rapids Christian, averaging 16 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while shooting 62 percent from the field.
