The 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards, designed to recognize African American achievements in entertainment and sports, were taped on Saturday, October 7th and aired Tuesday evening, October 10th.
Hosted by nominee and award winner DJ Khaled, the annual Black Entertainment with Stars television show, which celebrated officially the most popular music genre, eventually aired at the Microsoft Theater in sunny Los Angeles.
The big event had DJ Khaled, Cardi Bund Migos taking the stage with some of Florida’s biggest power players. These musical bigwigs include Rick Ross, Trina, Trick Daddy, T-Pain, Plies and Flo Rida. Yo Gotti and Playboi Carti should also bring their Top 40 hits to the big stage.
DJ Khaled, Cardi and Kendrick Lamar lead the way with nine nominations. Khaled was named DJ of the Year, Best Collabo and MVP of the Year, while Kendrick Lamar took home three awards and won Album of the Year with his “DAMN”, while his “HUMBLE” won Video of the Year.
Eminem also wowed people with his freestyle cipher ripping up President Donald Trump. The four-minute rant had the rapper debating Trump’s policies on immigration, corruption, white supremacy, the NFL, gun control, environmental disasters, hypocrisy and more.
