Darnell Mooney, a wide receiver with the National Football League’s (NFL) Chicago Bears, played collegiate football at Tulane.
Similarly, Mooney was the Green Wave’s top receiver at Tulane during his junior and senior years. In 2018 and 2019, he caught 48 receptions for a combined total of 993 and 713 yards.
He finished his college career with 19 touchdowns and achieved a 40-yard sprint time of 4.38 seconds at the NFL draft combine.
In the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected Mooney with the 173rd overall pick, and on July 21, he agreed to a rookie contract with the team for four years.
Further, Mooney caught three catches from Mitchell Trubisky for a total of 38 yards in his NFL debut, a 27-23win over the Detroit Lions.

Darnell Mooney Was Raised In Alabama With Two Siblings
The wide receiver was brought up in Gadsden, Alabama, with his siblings, a twin brother, Denzel, and an older sister, who all attend Jacksonville State.
They all had to deal with the computer technician’s father’s deteriorating health, temporary recovery, and ultimately lethal blood clots.
His mother, Valerie Hutchins, never noticed her son among the basketball players from Gadsden City High School who would congregate in the gym to joke around as they awaited the conclusion of the younger players’ games.
Mooney would be sitting alone in a corner, too preoccupied with his forthcoming game to be involved in teen frolic.
He Has A Twin Brother Denzel who Woks As A Comedian
The Mooney twins, who played on the same team but spoke their language as children, were so competitive that they occasionally got into fights on the basketball court. They are unlike in every other way except for their athletic prowess and work ethic.
The bigger and elder brother, Denzel, is outgoing, enjoys going out, and works as a stand-up comedian. The younger and speedier one, Darnell, is serious and reticent, referring to himself as an “in-house man.”
In order to avoid having to communicate with anyone, he admits to walking around high school with headphones on but the headphone jack unplugged in his palm. The COVID-19 measures weren’t a significant concern because his “peace” is at home relaxing.
Although Hutchins predicted there would be startling moments when he emerged from his shell, it might take people longer to comprehend him. Ahmad DeRamus, Mooney’s high school quarterback, who later played at Tuskegee, proved it to be the truth.
Darnell Mooney’s Parents: His Father Passed Away From Leukemia
The rising NFL player’s parents have always supported his career; his mother, Valerie, was into football, as per Chicago Tribune.
On his way to his first Bears match at Soldier Field in 2020, Mooney was traveling through downtown Chicago when he experienced a surge of emotions.
In the middle of his son’s junior year of high school, Larry Darnell Mooney passed away from leukemia. Mooney said that the last time he had visited Atlanta was with his father before the Bears’ Week 3 matchup with the Falcons.
Chicago was the birthplace of Darnell’s father, Larry Mooney, and when Darnell visited the city as a child, he recalled the skyscrapers, the “L,” the pizza, and the hot dogs.
Darnell had not traveled to the city before his team’s home opener against the New York Giants because his father passed away from problems related to leukemia when Darnell was in his junior year of high school.
In contrast, he believes that playing for the Bears would have pleased Larry even though he could not witness his son’s sports career take off.
Football was promoted by his mother, Valerie Hutchins, an Ohio State supporter who was raised in Lima, Ohio. When she thrust her family to Alabama for a job at Goodyear, she would have competed if girls had been permitted to do so in her day, and she quickly enrolled the twins in Pee Wee football.
Twin Brother Denzel Donated Bone Marrow To Save Father larry
After Larry damaged his spleen at work, the leukemia diagnosis came as a crushing shock to the family. A bone marrow transplant from Denzel, who was a better match than Darnell, helped him battle the illness for a few years.
Larry’s demise from blood clots caused by a malfunctioning shunt filter was a “devastating” blow to the family as he had been improving, as per Hutchins. Denzel claimed that despite this, it also strengthened the bonds between members of the family and taught them to value each other’s company.
While Mooney’s sister and brother expressed their feelings, Darnell, a “closed book,” kept most of his sorrow to himself.
After an all-state senior campaign at Gadsden City, Mooney took that mindset to Tulane, according to the Chicago Tribune. The defeat just strengthened that early emphasis.
