American artistic gymnast Gabrielle Douglas was born on December 31, 1995. She won the gold medal in the world all-around competition in 2015 and the Olympic all-around title in 2012. She was a part of the Olympic gold-winning teams in 2012 and 2016, which the media called the “Fierce Five” and the “Final Five,” respectively. She also competed for the United States on the gold-winning teams at the World Championships in 2011 and 2015.
Douglas is the first African American and the first American gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and the team disciplines at the same Olympics. Additionally, she won the 2016 AT&T American Cup all-around competition.
Why was Gabby Douglas chosen?
Douglas’ selection to the US Women’s World Championship team for 2015 was made public on October 8, 2015.
Where is Gabby Douglas right now?
In order to practice in West Des Moines under the direction of top instructor Liang Chow, Gabby departed Virginia in 2014. The rest is history.
The final time Douglas participated was at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, despite the fact that she never formally announced her retirement. After taking a break from gymnastics, Douglas shocked viewers by auditioning for The Masked Dancer and going by the stage name “Cotton Candy.”
