On Wednesday, November 24, Absa said that Pityana would resign as a board member, citing his decision to challenge the Prudential Authority as a breach of duty.
Pityana has reacted to the Absa board’s decision, calling it “disappointing and illegal.”
Pityana said that his relationship with the board had deteriorated when he sued the Prudential Authority. Pityana claims that the Absa board of directors requested him to resign from the board within 48 hours on November 2. Pityana was adamant about not leaving.
