Jeff Fillion will host his final show on CHOI FM on Friday, April 29, 2022. On Thursday, CHOI Radio X made the announcement.
Jeff Fillion is a businessman and radio broadcaster from Quebec, Canada.
He is frequently identified with a politically incorrect radio-style popular among right-wing radio DJs in the Quebec City area.
Controversy: Why Is Jeff Fillion Leaving Radio X?
Jeff Fillion will be leaving Radio X sooner than scheduled. Jeff decided to leave CHOI 98.1 Radio X at the end of his current contract in August due to a lack of agreement with his broadcaster.
He will host his final show on Friday, April 29, rather than staying on the radio station until the end of August, as previously announced, according to CHOI Radio X.
According to a press release, the decision was taken by mutual consent.
Until the start of the autumn semester, the noon show will be hosted by Yannick Marceau, “a regular in the noontime block,” who will serve as an interim host.
In a news release issued Thursday, Philippe Lefebvre, the general manager of the Radio X and Vibe 100.9 stations, stated that the host “rejected the station’s renewal offer.”
Jeff Fillion Controversy Amid Joining CHOI FM
Over the last 20 years, the show’s host Fillion has made the news a few times. He originally quit CHOI 98.1 Radio X in March 2005, after being sued for $6 million in a dozen defamation lawsuits.
Sophie Chiasson, a television host, had filed one of them, accusing him of making sexist remarks.
Following a decision by the Superior Court of Quebec in 2007, the latter earned $300,000 in damages from Jeff Fillion and Genex Communications, the station’s owner at the time.
Jeff Fillion joined the NRJ 98.9 station in March 2014 and was sacked in 2016 after a tweet criticizing businessman Alexandre Taillefer.
Fillion mocked the latter’s presence at Everybody Talks About It to discuss his son’s suicide.
Despite the controversy, CHOI Radio X opted to rehire him to conduct the midday show in August 2016.
Jeff Fillion Career
Jeff began his career working for CFIX-FM in his hometown of Chicoutimi in the late 1980s.
From 1997 to 2005, he worked as a morning guy for radio station CHOI-FM in Quebec City, Canada, where he earned the most of his reputation.
He built large following over time, and at his peak, he had more than twice the number of listeners as his nearest competition.
However, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) refused to renew the station’s license in July 2004 due to his very controversial and politically incorrect comments.
RNC Media purchased the station and license in June 2007, allowing it to continue transmitting without interruption.
His political views are a blend of libertarianism and conservatism.
He opposes separatism not because he has a strong attachment to Canada, but because he believes that sovereignty would only help Quebec become more socialist.
