The show, Countdown, has had several hosts throughout the years, with Colin Murray, 45, presiding over each game right now. The fans are now worried about the current situation of the famous presenter.
After serving as a guest host in 2020, Colin took Anne Robinson’s place in July. But this week, Colin is absent from the show, with Floella Benjamin taking his place.
The former Play School performer had a stunning appearance as she sat at the desk and spoke with co-host Rachel Riley.
Colin Murray, 45, is a Northern Irish radio and television presenter who has worked with many television and radio programs along with Countdown. He took over as host of BBC Television’s Match of the Day two on BBC Two in 2010.
In addition, he also moderated programs on BBC Radio 5 Live, including 5 Live Sport and Fighting Talk, and he continued to host BBC Radio Ulster.
In the past, The Northern Ireland native often hosted shows on BBC Radio 1 and Channel 5. Later, he even received the Sony Radio Academy Award for “Music Broadcaster of the Year” in 2007.
Why is Colin Murray Not Presenting Countdown Today? Has He Left?
Colin Murray has stunned his fans with his absence on the popular game show, Countdown. Unfortunately, his recent absence was not announced, raising the case’s seriousness.
Some fans think he is ill, while others believe he has left the show; however, there is less possibility that he has done so since neither Colin nor the channel has officially announced his departure.
His health is also in question, but the last time he was announced sick was on April 30, 2020, via Twitter. These points hint that Murray has personal issues and does not want to disclose them publicly.
Since Floella Benjamin has worked as his substitute, this change received a positive response from the Audience. Viewers were thrilled to see Floella, a successful author and House of Lords member, on the show.
Northern Irish Colin Murray Joined Countdown As A Surprise
The famous teatime game show Countdown introduced Colin Murray as its host, replacing Richard Whiteley and Anne Robinson. They left the show resigning from their hosting positions with a year gap each.
There is no denying Murray’s sharp intellect, and the star already has the co-hosts’ support after his successful term as quiz master; he told The Times last week that he is in Dent’s ‘inside circle,’ yet he’s possibly the show’s most unlikely presenter thus far.
The 45-year-old Northern Irish broadcaster first gained fame in the 2000s by interviewing Britpop music singers on Radio 1 with co-host Edith Bowman. Later, he turned his attention to sports, hosting Match of the Day 2 and his own TalkSport program.
Colin Murray, who is obviously up for a laugh, once ran with charity teams in Northern Ireland while wearing nothing but a lime green mankini and, in 2006, when performing in a kilt at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
Murray uploaded a film of his new dressing room set to Endor’s Pump It Up, confirming that he was already taping episodes of the popular show.
Colin Murray Has Been In Countdown For Two Years
Murray replaced Nick Hewer as the host of Countdown after the second coronavirus lockdown. Hewer could not travel to the set, so Murray hosted in his place on November 7, 2020.
Channel 4 broadcasted Murray’s debut regular program as a presenter on January 13, 2021. He continued to host it until Hewer made a permanent comeback on March 16, 2021.
Murray rejoined Countdown as a substitute presenter, being there until at least the beginning of November. This was after Anne Robinson left on July 14, 2022.
He has been on the Channel 4 quiz show Countdown as a Dictionary Corner guest.
