He writes the lyrics for Elbow, and throughout his career, his songwriting has received high recognition. For the 2008 track “Grounds for Divorce,” Elbow took home two Ivor Novello Awards for best songwriting.
Why Does Guy Garvey Have A Bee Tattoo On His Hand?
Guy Garvey had the worker bee, the emblem of Manchester, tattooed on his right arm to symbolize the city’s spirit. He grew up close to Manchester and gave the 2015 Extended Play of the band the label Lost Worker Bee.
In January 2015, Garvey claimed that he and his friend was getting a worker bee tattooed. It was the only thing he had ever considered inking on his body and he hesitantly remarked that he would get it on his calf.
On June 23, during the Elbow’s performance on The Park Stage at Glastonbury 2017, the Elbow frontman revealed a tattoo depicting the “Manchester worker bee.”
In an effort to show support for the victims of the Manchester Arena explosion on May 22, 2017, images of the worker bee were repeatedly shared on social media.
Guy Garvey Bee Tattoo – Meaning and Design Explained
Guy Garvey’s tattoo of a worker bee on his right hand symbolizes Manchester which has served as the city’s emblem for more than 150 years.
Bees have long been regarded for the significant role it played in the industrial revolution. They symbolize the tenacity of the city’s “worker bees,” who toiled in the cotton mills known as “beehives.”
When seven bees were added to the city’s coat of arms towards the end of the Industrial Revolution, the city formally embraced the symbol in 1842.
However, throughout the next century or so, the emblem lost its prominence. But in 2014, the bee sign was brought back to life after the installation of fresh trash cans all throughout the city.
Manchester City Council purchased 600 new bins with a honeycomb pattern and bee logo as part of a significant cleanup effort. The bee has recently become a symbol for Manchester businesses and celebrities to emphasize their connections to the city.
