Why did the Eagles get rid of Alex Singleton?

Alex Singleton is an American football linebacker for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Montana State University, where he was a two-time first-team All-Big Sky Conference selection.

After going undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, Singleton signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent but was released during the preseason. He also previously played for the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, Calgary Stampeders, and Philadelphia Eagles.

In 2019, Singleton signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and made his NFL debut in Week 11 of the season. He became a regular contributor on special teams and worked his way into the starting lineup at linebacker during the 2020 season.

On March 18, 2022, Singleton signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos reportedly worth $1.1 million guaranteed with $750k in playing time incentives.

Why did the Eagles get rid of Alex Singleton?

With a price tag of $2.433 million and a corresponding cap hit, Singleton would have been too pricey for the Eagles to tender (at the right of first refusal level).

The fact that Singleton didn’t appear to land a hefty contract suggests that either the Eagles didn’t care to have him back or he was content to accept less money to play for a club that could have a greater chance of making the playoffs.
